evaluation
I like the take I took on my motion graphics, I like my illustrations as they give a different quirky look to it and makes it eye catching. I like how the grove logo moves the bowling pin out of the way so it becomes more fluid and the black background really makes my white text stand out. I made my work using after effects, I think it was a good decision to use after effects as it has a similar interface to photoshop and other adobe software allowing me to pick it up easily. Mainly i used sliding effect as ones where my opacity changed these effect helped me change from different frames easily and made it flow also i used the scale effect allowing my images to heave depth of field other my other image.
What I dislike about my work is that, the images could of been more detailed but i think the message i got across is good and that was my main focus.
The research i have done helped me make a solid idea for my work i learned the history of Dunstable and this helped me to decide on using the roman jug statue as it was about our towns heritage and when people will see it in my work they are sure to recognise it. I also used an image of the doors of the priory church as i have learnt that the church has been here for a long while and dates back to Henry the 8th times. Our questionnaire helped me focus on the main parts where people were less informed about places of interest in Dunstable, from this i could illustrate drawings and add them into my work to make them aware of interesting things they may otherwise miss.
The artists i looked and inspired me to use a black background to help my images stand out also helped me decide on the movement and colours i was going to use for example David Wilsons arctic monkeys where he makes his colours stand out against a black background. David Pocull helped me determine that i wanted one of my images to bounce or roll of my screen from this i made the grove logo move and act as a bowling ball.
I had trouble deciding the font i wanted to use i over come this by doing some research. I decided that i didn't want to use any of the fonts that were already on the mac. To overcome this i looked at some free fonts, I found a font that was big and bold so there wouldn't be trouble reading it from any age of person. this worked well and gave more of an impact to my work.
If i was to do this again i would allow myself more time so I would be able to do my first idea which i did not have time to do. Overall I am pleased with my work i just think if i had more time my images would be more detailed however the simplicity makes my work fit to the whole target audience.

screenshots of my final
Here i choose to have my text coming in from different sides of my screen, this creates a visually stimulating image, i didn't have it coming in too fast as i wanted it to start slow with the song making more of an effect when the music starts. This has also taken into consideration the various levels of good/bad eyesight my target audience will have.using a black background with white text makes my text stand out much like how David Wilson made the white line stand out on his arctic monkeys video.

For my next slide I used illustrated images portraying thing in dunstable like drinking and eating I used rotation for the coffee beans making it stand out and not leaving it to stand there motionless as i didn't want it to loose its place amongst my other images, The effect i used on the beer gives it an artistic look thus making it stand out. The transition's work well not moving too fast but also giving it enough time to let my music run fluently throughout.
For this I had a quick transition of the image appearing bigger then sizing down with the jug illustration passing underneath. This suited the music well and gives it a brief history and a quirky style thats different from my other frames. The illustrations give depth and stand out amongst the black background making them stand out and meaning there eye catching.
For this i added thing to do in dunstable, i had lost of things fading in and out but at separate times, refreshing it's self if you like. this means there is always something good to look at and sublimely creating the thought of lost of thing to do in dunstable. The effect of the grove logo knocking over the bowling ping add good movement and allows the next slide to move along fluently.
Layout sheets
This was my first idea, it was to have a ball of string unravelling into words, i thought this might be too complicated and I wouldn't meet the deadline, i was to have more time I might of gone with this idea.
This is my first slide, last slide and second slide for my final i changed from logos to illustration as it suites my designers of influence more also as i didn't want to neglect other company around dunstable.
These are the middle frames for my piece involving illustration and directions this helped me set out my graphic easier as i knew exactly what i was doing. i made some subtle changes like not using the dw logo, i used the grove logo as there is no competition for them in dunstable so i could promote it directly.
This was my strongest idea, the idea was to attach a camera to a moving vehicle or skate board and have a trip round dunstable highlighting the places of interest however i could not get the resources in time and risked the danger off falling to far behind.

Typeface idea development, as i wasn't too keen on the type face that were offered to me on the mac, I overcome this issue by looking at the website creative blog and gathering different fonts from there, I decided to used Langdon as it was bold, not to flashy and very easy to read from a distance.

public enemy- harder than you think
I choose this song as I saw it in a piece of motion graphics at the end of a song. The fanfare is upbeat and has a happy sound to it. As the song is quite an iconic song people will recognise the song and think of the video when they hear it also if they hear the song while the video plays it may make them look at the video because of the song.

The song i have chosen for my work is:
The song i have chosen for my work is:
The Strypes - You Can't Judge A Book By The Cover
I think this is a good song as it is very upbeat and seres a good tempo, i may have to edit it bait to make it fit with my motion on screen. I also think the words "you can't judge a book by the cover" conveys a good messages about how people just think dunstable is rundown from a quick look but actually there is a lot to do.
Women from don't let dunstable die
we met a women from the 'dont let dunstable die' scheme.when she came in she explained what she wanted us to show in our motion graphics.
the main points i got from her was:
- make it positive, a positive outlook on dunstable.
- make it upbeat and happy for people to watch
- keep it modern, something that will catch peoples eyes
- aim it at the young children, teenagers, family, couples and also elderly people.
- dont include anything about empty shops, this could be negative
- show that there are things for people of all ages to do in dunstable
- free parking after 10pm
so the overall she wants is too keep it very positive and make duntable appealing.

Team mia and me
DUNSTABLE IN THE 16th CENTURY AND 17th CENTURY
In 1533 Archbishop Cramner announced the divorce of Henry VIII from Catherine of Aragon in the Priory church. Henry VIII closed the priory in 1539. Local people helped themselves to stone for building. However the closure of the priory led to the decline of Dunstable. In the Middle Ages many pilgrims came to the priory and spent money in the town. Those visitors were now gone.
Moreover like all Tudor towns Dunstable suffered from outbreaks of plague. There was a severe outbreak in 1582.
The wool cloth industry declined in the 17th century in the face of competition from the north of England. However some new industries grew up in Dunstable. One was lark catching. Another was making straw hats. Yet another industry was brewing. There was also a lace making industry in Dunstable. Yet in the 18th century Dunstable remained a small and unimportant market town and the population hardly grew at all.
DUNSTABLE IN THE 18th CENTURY
In the 18th century Dunstable was quite prosperous but it was very small. In 1801, at the time of the first census it still only had a population of 1,296. It was hardly larger than it was in the Middle Ages. Despite its small size Dunstable was an important stage coaching town. There had always been people travelling in private coaches but now you could pay to travel in a stagecoach. From 1742 stagecoaches made regular stops in the town and travellers stayed in the inns.
Meanwhile lace making and straw hat making boomed in Dunstable boomed.
In 1712 William Chew died. He left money in his will to build a school for 40 poor boys. It opened in 1715 but closed in 1905. Also in 1715 Frances Ashton built almshouses (she gave her name to Ashton Square). In 1723 Jane Cart, a wealthy widow built the Cart almshouses. Furthermore Church Street was built in 1784
.
DUNSTABLE IN THE 19th CENTURY
In the early 19th century straw hat making boomed in Dunstable but later in the century it declined. However at the end of the 19th century new industries arrived such as printing and engineering. The railway reached Dunstable in 1848 and from then on the town grew rapidly (although it was still small at the end of the century). In 1901 Dunstable only had a population of 5,157. Houghton (which was still a separate community) had a population of 2,608.
In the mid-19th century new streets were built on the west of the town such as Matthew Street, Albion Street, Edward Street and Icknield Street (named after the Icknield Way, a track which had existed since prehistoric times).
From 1836 there was a gas supply in Dunstable. If you could afford it you could have gas light in your home. From 1865 the streets were lit by gas. In 1855 Dunstable gained its first newspaper. In the 1870s the town gained a piped water supply and in 1897-1902 sewers were built. A cemetery was laid out in 1861. Then in 1864 Dunstable was made a borough. A police force was formed in 1865. The first telephone exchange opened in 1897.
We also went to Dunstable library and looked up some local history.
Iconic plac in Dunstable
Information in front of the statue. This informed us that it was placed here to represent the transport of goods from when the romans built this town.
Images from the front of priory church, this was so we could get a better idea of one of the places that Henry the 8th liked to visit once he help re build the town after the saxons destroyed it. we were helped from a local model.
The inside of the church wasn't very different and has some very nice architecture.
The clock tower after it had been re built. Originally the clock tower was one of the main attractions in dunstable and was placed in the Quadrant.
we noticed that the market was still very busy and brought in a lot of people, un fortuity it does only seem to appeal to an old aged audience. This once popular market need to be revamped to bring in a younger audience.
Here is the old palace lodge witch still brings in many people. The norman king next door was sadly burt down a little while ago this was a popular place and probably decreased footfall one it had been burnt down.l
